The Harlotry & Necromancy Appreciation Society

In addition to working as an illustrator and graphic designer, I am also a clown. Below are some pictures of the premiere of a piece we did at the Chi-town Clown Revue, which was a great deal of fun. All of the acts had great energy and were exciting. Go team.

When under pressure

I do two things: Dash off quick drawings and smoke. I’m liking this style.

smoking

which, for the record, is bad for you.

comics, clowning, crazy stuff

TONIGHT, go see SUPERGIRL at the Neofuturarium.

COMICS: For the past two months, I’ve been hired to work on a graphic novel for an ad agency. This has kept me obscenely busy. I can’t say much about it, but I feel frakin’ awesome and am learning a lot about sequential art. It is also paying my B-I-L-L-S.

Also, I am taking part in Redmoon’s production of Astronaut’s Birthday, which is a five-story high LIVE graphic novel that will take place in August. It is going to be a really beautiful and wacky project, more on that to come.

CLOWNING: July 25th, there is a Clown Revue at the Neofuturarium. I will be performing a piece that probably involves puppets and the destruction of said puppets. I am also possibly going to be organizing a massive food fight for said event. So if you want to come to a big party with 6-8 clown acts, a four-square tourny, dangerous and cool shit, as well as a whole lot of mess, check it out.

Also, in August, my play Gérard’s Birthday Party is going to be performed by the Harlotry and Necromancy Appreciation Society at the Abbie Hoffman Died for Our Sins Festival here in Chicago. I am directing and performing in it. Here’s a short description of that: “Three clowns attempt to throw a birthday party with all the necessary ingredients: presents, hats, cake, party games, and of course, a captive audience. It ends in shrimp and death.”

off the grid

Life has been really too out of control for me to keep blogging on any kind of a regular basis, but I will do my best to start up again when I can. In the meantime, I will continue to update my gallery when there are new pieces and will revitalize the blog when I have the time and energy to do it properly. Holy crap, life.

thanks, amelia earhart

This little doodle made this morning. It’s my birthday, and I kept thinking about Amelia Earhart. She was the best.

califooornia

I am listening to my favorite mix, which is mostly sad-ish music about the South and West, so here’s some art to accompany that.

This weekend I was part of a large performance art/dance competition event. There’s some video of the competition here. I made it pretty far, until my prop was stolen and desecrated by my sparkly opponent.

Squid Punk and Commie Zombie, two of the fighters.

Today, I got offered some work doing metal work! I am going to weld like demon. I also finished  a mural! It’s good to be an artist. :)

Nightlife

Squidpunk!

If you’re in Chicago, and you want to see a gladiatorial style dance-off this weekend, I’m one of the contestants in Collaboraction’s Dome of Doom. Dancing and painting all the time is exhausting!

Tank Girl

I, not so secretly, sometimes want to look like this.

I’ve been hired to paint a set for the Chicago Dramatists, so I’m busy busy doing massive Chinese watercolor type things. Finding spare time more and more difficult to come by.
