What’s six times seven nine?

please hold while we adjust our set

I’m in the middle of tech for I Am A Camera, and I am very happy but thoroughly beat from it.

Man, how about Obama recently. I had a killer idea for a political cartoon, which I started to draw up early when I suddenly realized just How Bad I am at drawing Obama! It’s weird. I need some practice before I feel good enough about it to post anything I draw of him.

Baby

Baby has been looking at me all day like he’s trying to make my head explode. Scary little fat kitty.

I got a part-time job! It seems like the perfect fit for me, and means I can still do art freelance.

I didn’t make the above image, but I am working on this show and it opens next week in chicago. It’s about pictures and memory. It’s funny and sad, the two performers who are working on it are fantastic. If you live in Chicago, check it out on the Neo-futurists’ website.

So this has been consuming a large degree of my time, as well as working on some professional graphic art, which I can’t post here due to the fact that it doesn’t belong to me anymore! Going into tech this weekend; it’s pretty exciting.

I’ll try to codge something together for later.

Snow.

My cousin, Fabien, who lives in Montreal and is way talented, is doing a weekly comic series with some of his friends, and has invited me to join. So I’m going to try to add that to the list of things I do. Every week, they draw a comic for a different theme. This week’s theme is snow. You can check it out here: http://weeklygraphicnovel.tumblr.com/

Mine is below, it may not be posted yet as I missed the deadline. It is inspired in part by last night’s State of the Union: hey, even if you don’t believe in Global Warming, it’ll still be good to have a cleaner world, right…? … Right?

Also, I would be FINE if it decided to stop snowing here. Just FINE with that.

Smile, smile!

I wish I had my very own brand of emoticons that I could use to tell people how I felt. Oh wait, I have my face.

I Am A Camera has previews next week! This means I will have even less time to make amusing art. Alas!

zombies!

Spent the morning working on a logo and doing research for this play I am working on that is going up in June. It is a spoof of House in which there will be zombies. Currently reading through Max Brooks’ Zombie Survival Guide.

I like zombies. I appreciate their tireless enthusiasm and persistence.

I have a job interview today! It is for a part-time assistant arts marketing person, which I would do in addition to all the art/graphic stuff I already do. It is the first job I have interviewed for in a while that I actively want. So wish me luck.

Process: hair of the dog part 3

Mikey

I have posted two earlier versions of this to sort of show a bit what my process is like, and the work that goes into a single piece. This is the final version (actually, that’s a lie, I still want to mess with it a bit, but negligeable). As you can see, the background and lighting add a lot to the finished piece. I also went into way way more detail with the hair. You can never really do enough stray hairs on a dog like this. I’m very pleased. If that were my dog, I’d hang this o’er the mantlepiece so that we all knew who was the Master of the House.

I put off watching the final episode of Conan on the tonight show until last night, and I was so impressed by Conan’s demeanor. He could have made a lot of people laugh by being bitter and burning bridges, but instead he gave a really standup speech, including the last bit…

“All I ask of you, especially young people…is one thing. Please don’t be cynical,” O’Brien said. “I hate cynicism — it’s my least favorite quality and it doesn’t lead anywhere.Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen. I’m telling you, amazing things will happen.”

Yeah.

working for the (on the?) weekend

Threw this together last night for fun. I have a ton of deadlines this weekend, as well as 6 hours of rehearsal + transit every day, so not much time for my own art, but I like this, even though it’s sloppy.

Definitely not the most flattering self portrait. It’s based off some old pictures I found of me, except since then I quit smoking and dyed my hair about five time. But the frenetic energy of the piece, and the facial expression are spot on. I also like the almost painful color combo for some reason, but that’s just me :)
